*NOTE On 2005-2020 Aluminum framed models: The Yamaha factory padding under the tank is too hard and tall to allow this tank to properly sit down enough to mount. You can either trim the ribs from the padding to provide clearance or remove them completely and use Clarke tank padding ( available in the accessories section of the shopping cart ) or pad the frame yourself using locally sourced product.

This tank is not plug-n-play.
The Bad:
Spacers needed under the main mount (quarter inch) to line up with the mounting point in the frame. Rear rubber strap will not work either. Had to space the rear of the tank one half inch for the tank to even begin to not hit the frame. It still hits in one area.The right shroud does not fit correctly. At the top it stands out beyond the tank, not recessed like stock. Neither shroud lines up perfect. with the horizontal tank line.

I wanted a black tank so my bike looks cool. I read a lot of reviews about how awful this tank is, but it is the only option for a stock black tank. Those reviews were not accurate, this tank straight up does not fit my 08.
Looks like I could get it on if I removed a significant amount of material from the frame, where I peeled off the rubber dampers. I decided it’s not worth trying, because I still would not be happy with the tank. It hangs down about 1” lower than stock on the right side. The gas cap boss is raised and hideous, where stock is flush, there’s a 1/2 inch between bottom of cap and top of tank, the cap is way taller than stock, stock cap doesn’t really fit it has to be forced and looks worse with an even larger gap between cap and tank. I also was not stoked on the color, it’s inconsistent and not nearly as dark as plastics or air box
